CULTISM IN INSTITUTIONS

CULT is like marriage, an institution where certificate is awarded as the seal for the union and as a bond. In Cultism, the consequences are revealed only if you are a member. There is no library that will provide detailed information about any cult group.
Cultism is a vice that is very common in schools such as Tertiary Institutions, secondary schools and even in places where we live. It is so irresponsible for young people to sell their hearts for extremely irrelevant things, in their attempt to seek significance.
WHY DO STUDENTS JOIN THESE SECRET SOCIETIES?
I have come to the conclusion after several research methodologies that students join secret cult for the following reasons:
·          Some students want to be so popular; always wanting other students and even their lecturers to be intimidated at the mention of their names.
·       Some join cults because they have little or no knowledge of what they are getting involved in.
·         Inability to make nice choice of friend.
·         Some join the cult for the quest  to fight for a girl
·      Most times, it is difficult for the students to reject the offer especially when it’s from a friend.
·          For protection against other cult gangs
·     Some students that are academically frustrated join these societies to bring other successful students down.

LURING/RECRUITMENT STRATEGIES OF CULT GROUPS
·           The students are told that they can cheat in the examination hall without being cautioned by the supervisors.
·           The students are told that they are free to have sex with any girl they want in the institution without much stress or caution from the institution.
·           The students are guaranteed by the cult groups that they can attain any political position in the institution only with the support of the society (cult).
·           They are meant to believe that every member of the society (cult) is above the school rules and regulations.(thereby wearing away the rule of the institution).
·           The students are brain washed to believe that as a member of the confraternities (cult) their grades are guaranteed.

CONSEQUENCE OF CULTISM IN INSTITUTIONS
Here I will list and explain the consequences of cultism in Nigeria institutions:
1.        Spiritual or diabolic harms (problem)
2.        Violence
3.        Expulsion
4.        Death
5.        Murder

1.        SPIRITUAL OR DIABOLIC HARM: This cultist engages in secret meetings that are extremely diabolical and as well affects their members negatively in all areas of their life including their behaviour because sometimes they carryout assignment normal individuals will reject when you talk of dangers involved in it.
2.        VIOLENCE: Violence is at the core of every cult group. This creates trigger happy memberships who are ready to get involved in violence that leads to loss of lives and property in schools.
3.         EXPULSION: Any cultist caught in the institution is always expelled from the institution
4.         DEATH: Students that get involved in this wicked act endangers their lives, close friends lives as well as that of their family members. Some lose their lives on their graduation day without receiving their certificate. They get killed by other group of cultists from another fraternity.
5.        MURDER: Cultists find it very easy to murder (kill) other people even without any good reason.

Advice: To all students who have found themselves caught up in the midst of these groups and to everyone reading this piece, my advice you is to make a change, (it is never too late to change one’s way no matter how deeply involved one has gone), be of your best behaviour and try to make a difference in every area of your life.

Don’t join any secret society (cult); regardless of whatever their promise maybe, because the day you do marks the end of your academic success and possibly your future as well. You’ll agree with me that some students were not lucky enough to survive or graduate from school due to their engagement with these confraternities. Therefore, I’m using this medium to persuade you to say NO to whatever pressure you’re currently faced with.

TECHNOLOGY

The present world is said to be globalized which means we are living in the time of highly developed technology. In our daily life everything we do is related to technology in one way or the other.  Technology has in thought, helped us to increase in having better facility than that of the ancient times. The development and importance of technology cannot be over emphasized in the sense that the industries and different sectors of the society are developing technology according to their needs and requirements.

Note: Technology can neither effects us positively or negatively.

POSITIVE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY ON OUR LIVES
The importance of technology cannot be neglected in our life.  With the help of the internet we are able to learn new things and study online in different institutions without even knowing what the institution looks like, with the help of mobile  technology we are able to speak and chat with our loved one’s (friends and relatives) who are living very far from us. In these modern days, we have the gas cooker, electric blender, microwave and many other things which we use for fast and easy cooking due to improvement in technology.  Aviation technology has also helped us to reach distant places within hours which took the ancient people many years to reach. With the help of social networking like (Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Email) etc., we are able to find our childhood friends and relatives etc. With Information Technology, we are able to share information and important documents.
Churches today make use of keyboard; computerized musical instruments, projector, bible and other technology have helped to increase the Joy and the ways of worshipping God unlike that of the olden days.
The use of CCTV Cameras as modern technology has helped to minimize the high rate of criminal activities.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY ON OUR LIFE
In as much as technology has contributed greatly in our everyday activities, it also has bad or ugly side effect; because of technology today, parents find it difficult to spent time and communicate very well with their children. They are always busy even at home with their Laptops, IPod, Ipad, Mobile Phones, Tablets, etc.
Technology also contributes to high level of broken homes
(divorce) because some couples enjoy the company of their electronic gadgets more than that of their spouse. They are so comfortable operating their phones, laptops etc, without speaking to each other even when they are together in the room.

It has also made us not to be confident in ourselves because the use of Mobile phones enables us to send text and call to ask for help concerning things we should do by ourselves.
The use of aviation technology such as auto-mobile, Airplane etc. have lead to high rate of premature death and pollution which is not hygienic to man and was not encountered during the time of old.
The use of gas cooker has also contributed to burning of different homes which lead to death of many innocent people in the house.
