NUTRITIONAL VALUES OF TIGER NUT



Tiger nuts are nuts with tuber content and generate in the lower layer of the soil, it botanical name is Cyperus esculentus.

It has different tribal name in Igbo (Aki Hausa), Yoruba's (ofio),  Hausa (aya), Spanish (chufas).

After several research methodologies result has shown that tiger nut is a good opposition for starch.

Enhances blood circulation in the human body.
It fights against cardiovascular diseases. 

This tuber has not been considered as an important Nut due to little or no knowledge of it nutritional components. It contains large amount of nutrients and elements which can ensure a healthy life.

The juice content can as well be extracted as milk and served as a drink. These tuber can be eaten either fresh or dried.

STEPS INVOLVE IN THE EXTRACTION OF THIS TIGER NUT IS LISTED AS FOLLOWS:

The tiger nut is soaked in water for one night or 2 days preferably for easy blending, it is advisable to use enough water while soaking to avoid fermentation. It is optional placed the soaked nut in the refrigerator.

• Wash the already soaked nut and remove the bad nut if there is any.

• Place the nuts in a blender Add enough water to ensure that your blades work efficiently. 

• To strain the blended nuts, use a chiffon piece.

• Press and squeeze the chiffon piece together to extract the milk.

• You can add the shaft back in the blender with your desired amount of water then blend.

• The process of extraction will be repeated over again to as to properly extract the milk.
